Bengaluru Airport Surpasses 40 Million Passengers, Joins Large Airport Club.

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 40 million passengers in 2024. This is the first time the airport has reached this landmark in a calendar year. With this achievement, Bengaluru Airport will now be classified as a “Large Airport” by airport tracking, rating, and ranking companies, many of which use the 40 million passengers mark as a threshold for this category. Bengaluru will join Delhi and Mumbai as the only airports in India to be classified as large.

In 2024, the airport saw a total of 40.73 million passengers, a significant increase from 37.2 million in 2023. The highest single-day passenger count was recorded on October 20, 2024, with 126,532 passengers passing through the airport. Additionally, the airport witnessed its peak Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) on October 17, 2024, with 782 ATMs, contributing to an annual average of 723 ATMs per day.

This achievement reflects the growing importance of Kempegowda International Airport as a major aviation hub, both for domestic and international flights. It also highlights Bengaluru’s expanding role in India’s aviation landscape, positioning the city as a key player in the global air travel network. With this new status, the airport is expected to continue its growth trajectory, further enhancing its capacity and services to accommodate the increasing number of travelers.
