The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have conducted a review of the readiness of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), assessing key milestones for the commencement of commercial operations. A senior official from the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) confirmed the development on Wednesday, highlighting the airport’s progress as it nears completion.
The review focused on various operational aspects, including runway construction, terminal infrastructure, air traffic management, and safety compliance. With Navi Mumbai International Airport being a crucial addition to India’s aviation sector, authorities are ensuring that all necessary approvals and regulatory standards are met before its official launch.
Developed as a much-needed alternative to the congested Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, NMIA is expected to handle millions of passengers annually upon completion. The airport will boost air connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and contribute significantly to economic growth by facilitating trade, tourism, and investment opportunities.
CIDCO, the nodal agency for the project, has been working in coordination with key stakeholders to expedite construction and meet regulatory requirements. As the final stages of development continue, officials remain optimistic about achieving operational readiness soon.
