France To Fund Rafale F5 Alone.

France faces a financial setback after United Arab Emirates withdrew from the Rafale F5 programme. The exit, driven by disputes over sensitive technology sharing like optronics, leaves Paris to bear the full development cost alone.

Initially, the UAE had planned to invest up to €3.5 billion in the programme, which is estimated at around €5 billion. With negotiations collapsing, France will now fully fund the project, potentially leading to delays in development and delivery timelines.

The decision also reflects underlying tensions in a key defence partnership. France has long maintained strong military and strategic ties with the UAE, including bases in the region and extensive defence cooperation.

Paris remains a major arms supplier to Abu Dhabi, highlighted by deals such as the sale of 80 Dassault Rafale jets and other advanced defence systems. The development raises broader questions about France’s influence and future partnerships in the Gulf region.
