IAG Places Major Order for 71 Airbus Aircraft to Expand Fleet and Improve Efficiency

International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, and LEVEL, has announced a significant fleet expansion with a confirmed order of 71 Airbus aircraft. The deal includes A320neo and A321neo models, aimed at modernizing the group’s short-haul fleet and enhancing fuel efficiency across its network.

This strategic order is part of IAG’s broader plan to replace older, less fuel-efficient aircraft, reducing its carbon footprint and operating costs while boosting capacity in high-demand routes across Europe and beyond.

Key Highlights of the Order:

  • Total aircraft ordered: 71
  • Models: Airbus A320neo and A321neo
  • Purpose: Fleet renewal and network expansion
  • Delivery timeline: Expected between 2026 and 2028

IAG CEO Luis Gallego emphasized that the new aircraft will offer 20% more fuel efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions, aligning with IAG’s long-term sustainability goals.

This announcement reaffirms IAG’s confidence in Airbus’ A320neo family, known for its advanced technology, improved passenger comfort, and environmental performance.

With this order, IAG continues to strengthen its position among Europe’s leading airline groups, preparing for long-term growth and enhanced operational flexibility.
