India has achieved a significant milestone in its defence capabilities as the indigenous Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro is now ready for operational use.
The AIP system is designed to enhance the endurance of conventional submarines by allowing them to remain submerged for longer periods without the need to surface frequently for oxygen. This capability significantly improves stealth and operational effectiveness during underwater missions.
The technology is expected to be integrated into submarines of the Kalvari-class submarine operated by the Indian Navy. Once deployed, it will strengthen India’s underwater combat capability and provide a major boost to indigenous defence technology.
The successful development of this system reflects India’s growing focus on self-reliance in defence manufacturing and advanced naval technologies under its indigenous development initiatives.
