Rolls-Royce Offers India Co-Development of Fighter Jet Engine with IP Ownership.

Rolls-Royce, the renowned engine maker, is in discussions with India to co-develop and co-design a fighter jet engine, offering India the opportunity to own the intellectual property (IP) for the engine. According to Alex Zino, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Future Programmes at Rolls-Royce Defence, this partnership would be unlike others, with India having full ownership of the IP for use in both current and future military programs.

Speaking at Aero India, Zino emphasized that Rolls-Royce is committed to building a deeper and broader aerospace ecosystem in India. He highlighted plans to significantly increase procurement and supply from India, not just to meet domestic needs but also to support global markets. The company is also working towards powering India’s growth through both stationary and mobile power solutions, further reinforcing the country’s strategic importance to Rolls-Royce’s global operations.

Zino also mentioned that India is emerging as a key sourcing hub for Rolls-Royce, with the country supporting various divisions, including gas turbines, reciprocating engines from their MTU product line, and the defence aerospace sector. This collaborative effort is a part of Rolls-Royce’s broader vision to deepen its engagement with India, enabling the country to play a critical role in the global aerospace supply chain.
