Russia Supplies Kits For Su-30MKI Production.

In a significant boost to India’s air combat strength, Russia has delivered material kits to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the production of 12 new Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft. These kits will be assembled at HAL’s Nashik facility, supporting the Indian Air Force in strengthening its operational capabilities.

The production follows a ₹13,500 crore agreement signed between HAL and the Ministry of Defence on December 12, 2024. With the arrival of these kits, HAL has accelerated manufacturing plans and aims to deliver all 12 jets by the end of the year, ensuring timely reinforcement of the IAF fleet.

A key highlight of this program is the growing indigenous content, which now exceeds 62%. This reflects India’s continued push towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing, with more components being sourced and developed domestically under the broader “Make in India” initiative.

These additional Su-30MKI jets will primarily serve as attrition replacements for aircraft lost in accidents over the past decade. Their induction is expected to help address the ongoing shortage of fighter squadrons and maintain the IAF’s combat readiness in a rapidly evolving security environment.
