Vijay Nirani Appointed Co-Chairperson of India Alliance on SAF to Advance Decarbonization Goals.

Vijay Nirani, the Founder & Managing Director of TruAlt Bioenergy, has been appointed Co-Chairperson of the India Alliance on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by the Carbon Market Association of India (CMAI). This appointment comes as part of the nation’s ongoing efforts to accelerate its decarbonization goals, particularly within the aviation sector. The alliance aims to drive the adoption of SAF and position India as a key player in the global sustainable aviation fuel market.

As Co-Chairperson, Nirani will play a pivotal role in steering the India Alliance on SAF, working to foster collaboration between the government, aviation industry, and environmental organizations. The alliance will focus on promoting the development, production, and adoption of SAF, a cleaner alternative to conventional jet fuel, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions in the aviation industry. By spearheading this initiative, Nirani is set to help India make significant strides in achieving its climate and sustainability objectives.

The official launch of the India Alliance on SAF will take place during India Climate Week (ICW) 2025, scheduled for February 3-7, 2025, at Le Meridien in New Delhi. ICW 2025 is expected to be a landmark event, bringing together policymakers, business leaders, environmental advocates, and experts to discuss India’s progress on climate action. The event will serve as a platform to showcase the nation’s dedication to sustainability and its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with the SAF initiative being one of the key highlights.

The India Alliance on SAF will not only focus on advancing SAF technologies but also aim to create a comprehensive policy framework to support the scaling up of SAF production. This initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of transitioning to renewable energy sources and achieving carbon neutrality across various sectors, including aviation. Through this strategic collaboration, Nirani and the alliance will help foster a more sustainable aviation industry, positioning India as a leader in the global push toward greener air travel.

In the long term, the India Alliance on SAF aims to create a sustainable, economically viable SAF ecosystem that can help the aviation sector reduce its dependency on fossil fuels, significantly lower carbon emissions, and contribute to global climate goals. Nirani’s leadership in this initiative reflects India’s commitment to transforming its aviation sector, ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable future for air travel worldwide.
