The expansion of Noida International Airport in Jewar has taken a significant step forward as plans for the third and fourth phases have been cleared, paving the way for the installation of two additional runways and the establishment of aircraft engine manufacturing companies. This marks a crucial milestone in the development of the airport, which is set to become one of India’s largest aviation hubs.

A key factor enabling this progress is the support from local farmers, with over 70 percent giving their consent for land acquisition required for the expansion. The state government and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) have been actively engaging with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition, addressing concerns related to compensation and rehabilitation. The positive response from the farming community has accelerated the land acquisition process, bringing the project closer to its ambitious goals.

The expansion will see the addition of two more runways, enhancing the airport’s capacity to handle growing air traffic demand. Currently, the airport is being developed in phases, with the first phase expected to be operational by 2025. The long-term vision includes a total of six runways, making it one of the largest airports in Asia.

In addition to expanding its aviation infrastructure, the project is also set to attract major aircraft engine manufacturing companies. The establishment of such industries within the airport premises is expected to boost India’s aviation manufacturing sector and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. This aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, promoting domestic production and technological advancements in the aerospace industry.

With the groundwork being laid for these crucial developments, the Noida International Airport is on track to become a major global aviation hub, contributing significantly to economic growth, job creation, and regional connectivity. Authorities remain optimistic about completing the expansion phases as planned, with continued cooperation from all stakeholders.
