Bihar is set to receive a significant infrastructure boost with the development of a new terminal building at Purnia Airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved the construction of the terminal, which will be built at a cost of ₹33.99 crore and is expected to be completed within the next three months. The approval marks a major step in enhancing air connectivity for the region, benefiting not only Bihar but also neighboring states and even Nepal.

The new terminal is being designed with state-of-the-art facilities, keeping in mind the expected passenger traffic for the next 30-40 years. The airport will provide a direct air travel option for residents of the Kosi and Seemanchal regions, as well as those from West Bengal, Jharkhand, and parts of Nepal. The improved connectivity is expected to boost regional trade, tourism, and economic development, making air travel more accessible to a larger population.

The progress of Purnia Airport is closely linked to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development initiatives under the Pragati Yatra. During the third phase of his journey, the Chief Minister visited Purnia and announced multiple development projects worth ₹581 crore. One of the key areas of focus was the Purnia Airport project, where he conducted a review and instructed officials to accelerate the construction work. Following his visit, AAI’s approval has now paved the way for rapid progress on the terminal building.

Once completed, Purnia Airport will add another vital link to Bihar’s expanding aviation network, reducing travel time for passengers and improving accessibility to remote regions. The government’s commitment to infrastructure development is expected to further drive investment and economic opportunities in the state. With the new terminal set to be operational soon, Bihar is steadily moving towards a more connected and developed future.
