A China Airlines Airbus A350-941 (B-18902) sustained significant structural damage at Melbourne Airport after the aircraft unexpectedly rolled backwards while still connected to an aerobridge.

The incident occurred just hours before the aircraft was scheduled to operate flight CI58 to Taipei on April 14. Following the mishap, the flight has been cancelled, causing disruption to passengers and airline operations.

According to initial reports, the backward movement resulted in damage to the left forward passenger door, particularly at the hinge area. The aerobridge also suffered impact damage, indicating the force of the unintended movement during ground handling.

While no injuries have been reported, the incident has raised concerns over ground safety procedures and aircraft securing protocols. Authorities and the airline are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to determine the cause and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
