United Airlines is expanding deployment of its new 222-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner across major long-haul routes during the latter half of the Northern summer 2026 season, focusing on enhanced passenger comfort and premium travel experience.
From San Francisco International Airport to Heathrow Airport, all three daily services will transition to the updated Dreamliner by September 2026. The rollout will take place in phases between late April and early September, gradually introducing the upgraded configuration across the route.
The airline is also enhancing its ultra long-haul operations to Singapore Changi Airport, where both daily flights will be operated by the 222-seat 787-9 starting August 1, 2026. Additionally, flights between San Francisco and Zurich Airport will adopt the same aircraft configuration from September 1, 2026.
Unlike older layouts, the new configuration features fewer seats overall, allowing for more spacious cabins and an increased focus on premium seating options. This move reflects United’s strategy to cater to high-value travelers while improving comfort on some of the world’s longest routes.
