Boeing has announced the successful completion of certification flight testing for both the Boeing 737 MAX 7 and the Boeing 737 MAX 10, marking a major step toward bringing the final two members of the 737 MAX family into commercial service.
The milestone was confirmed in Boeing’s second-quarter financial results and comes after years of certification delays. The MAX 7 and MAX 10 were originally expected to enter service in 2019 and 2020, but the global grounding of the 737 MAX fleet following two fatal crashes, along with subsequent regulatory reviews and required design changes—including modifications to the engine anti-icing system—significantly delayed the programme.
The MAX 7 is expected to receive FAA certification in the coming weeks, with the MAX 10 expected to follow shortly afterward. Deliveries of both aircraft are currently planned to begin in 2027.
The certification is particularly important for several major airlines. Southwest Airlines holds around 90% of all MAX 7 orders, while United Airlines is the largest customer for the MAX 10. Ryanair also has a significant order for the larger variant. Once certified, the aircraft are expected to improve fleet efficiency, increase passenger capacity, and support airline expansion plans worldwide.
