Mahindra Aerostructures has secured a multi-year contract from Airbus to manufacture and supply fuselage skins for the A320neo and A321XLR aircraft, further expanding India’s role in Airbus’ global aerospace supply chain.

Under the agreement, Mahindra will manufacture 11 fuselage skin panels at its Bengaluru facility—eight for Section 18 and three for Section 19. These components cover parts of the aircraft’s rear fuselage and tail and will be shipped to Airbus Aerostructures’ facility in Augsburg, Germany.

To support the programme, Mahindra Aerostructures will add specialised manufacturing capabilities, including advanced chemical milling, surface treatment and stretch-forming production lines. Stretch forming is used to shape metal sheets into the curved panels required for aircraft fuselages.

Initial manufacturing engineering work, including tooling design, process updates, qualification and inspection, is already underway. Deliveries under the programme are targeted to begin in 2028.

The contract builds on Mahindra Aerostructures’ growing partnership with Airbus. The company already manufactures and assembles main fuselages for Airbus’ H125 and H130 helicopters and supplies components and sub-assemblies for Airbus commercial aircraft programmes.

Airbus said the agreement demonstrates India’s growing precision-engineering capabilities and will further strengthen the country’s position in the global aerospace manufacturing industry.
