Japan Airlines (JAL) has selected the Embraer E190-E2 as the successor to the existing Embraer E170/E190 regional aircraft fleet operated by its subsidiary, J-AIR. The move forms part of the airline group’s plans to modernise its regional operations with next-generation aircraft.

JAL has placed an order for 26 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, consisting of 16 firm orders and 10 options. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in fiscal year 2029, marking the start of a gradual transition to the new aircraft type.

The Embraer E190-E2 belongs to Embraer’s next-generation E-Jet family and is designed for regional and short-haul operations. Its introduction is expected to help J-AIR renew its fleet while maintaining connectivity between regional Japanese cities and larger domestic hubs.

The fleet transition will be an important step in JAL’s regional aviation strategy as it prepares to replace older aircraft with newer-generation jets. Further details on delivery schedules and operational deployment have not been announced in the provided information.
