Air India Diversion Leaves Bags Stranded.

Air India faced a major baggage disruption after Flight AI116 from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport was diverted to Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport due to a cockpit warning indicating a possible cargo fire .

The aircraft landed safely, and subsequent inspections confirmed the alert was false. However, the diversion led to around 280 passengers arriving without their checked baggage, which remained stranded in Medina . The situation has caused inconvenience and frustration among affected travelers.

Passengers reported that while they safely reached Mumbai, their belongings did not arrive with them, creating logistical challenges. The airline is now working to recover and deliver the stranded baggage to passengers as soon as possible.

The incident highlights operational challenges airlines face during emergency diversions, even when safety is not ultimately compromised.
