An Air India Express Boeing 737 operating flight IX 415 from Kochi to Abu Dhabi turned back after the crew detected a rapid drop in Engine 1 oil quantity. The issue was noticed around 50 minutes into the flight while the aircraft was cruising at 36,000 feet.
As the oil level continued to fall, the crew decided to return to Kochi as a precaution. During the return journey, Engine 1 oil pressure began fluctuating and later entered the danger zone, prompting the pilots to shut down the affected engine.
The Boeing 737 continued its approach on the remaining engine and landed safely at Cochin International Airport. Air India Express said the flight returned in line with established safety procedures, and passengers were subsequently connected to Abu Dhabi on an alternative aircraft.
