AirAsia Confirms Massive Airbus A220 Order.

AirAsia has announced a landmark fleet expansion deal with Airbus, placing an order for 150 A220-300 aircraft. The agreement marks one of the most significant milestones in the A220 programme’s history and signals AirAsia’s strong growth ambitions across the region.

With this order, AirAsia becomes a new customer of the Airbus A220 family and will also serve as the launch operator of a new 160-seat cabin configuration. The increased capacity is made possible through an innovative design featuring additional overwing exits on both sides of the aircraft, enhancing both efficiency and passenger capacity.

The deal stands as the largest single firm order ever placed for the A220 programme, pushing total global orders for the aircraft beyond the 1,000 mark. The announcement was made at Airbus’ Mirabel facility in the presence of Tony Fernandes and Lars Wagner, highlighting the importance of the agreement for both companies.

This major acquisition is expected to play a key role in AirAsia’s future expansion strategy, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting its long-term vision of offering efficient and affordable air travel across Asia.
