As the year-end holiday season approaches, AirAsia is expanding its international reach, adding five new routes from Thailand in just three days. This expansion comes in response to increased travel demand across Southeast Asia and South Asia, with AirAsia seizing the opportunity to provide more options for travelers heading to popular holiday destinations.
The airline’s first new flights took off on October 27 from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to Hyderabad, India, and Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Both destinations are gaining popularity among Thai travelers for their mix of cultural attractions, natural beauty, and affordability. Hyderabad, with its vibrant historical sites, bustling markets, and expanding tech industry, is an attractive destination for both leisure and business travelers. Phu Quoc, meanwhile, is known for its pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and fast-growing tourism industry, making it a sought-after getaway spot within Vietnam.
Expanding further from Thailand, AirAsia has also launched three additional routes from Phuket International Airport. The first flight to Kolkata, India, took off on October 27, connecting travelers to one of India’s most historically rich cities known for its art, culture, and festivals. On October 30, the airline will begin flights to Chennai, another major Indian city, renowned for its vibrant Tamil culture, temples, and booming IT sector. Finally, on October 29, AirAsia will offer new flights from Phuket to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Siem Reap serves as the gateway to Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s iconic temple complex and a UNESCO World Heritage site that draws millions of tourists each year.
By adding these new routes, AirAsia is not only positioning itself as a key player in the growing intra-Asian travel market but also supporting Thailand’s status as a major hub for international travel. These new connections will give travelers greater access to Southeast Asia and India’s major cultural and economic centers, facilitating more tourism and business exchanges across the region.
AirAsia’s choice to expand during the peak travel season aligns with the airline’s strategy to capture a larger share of the international travel market by making high-demand routes accessible at affordable prices. With increased connectivity from Thailand to India, Vietnam, and Cambodia, AirAsia expects a surge in passengers drawn by the diverse travel experiences each destination offers. The airline’s low-cost model, coupled with its network’s expanding reach, enhances its appeal to both budget-conscious travelers and frequent flyers eager to explore Asia’s vibrant destinations.
This rapid expansion demonstrates AirAsia’s confidence in the resilience of the travel industry and the rising popularity of cross-border travel within Asia. The airline’s robust approach is expected to strengthen its foothold in Southeast Asia and position it for continued growth as international travel demand rebounds.
