ALPA India Alleges Hiring Restriction Pact Between Air India, IndiGo.

The Airline Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA India) has raised concerns over a possible tacit understanding between Air India and IndiGo that allegedly prevents the hiring of pilots from each other. The association, which is a member of the International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Association (IFALPA), has flagged the issue to the civil aviation ministry, emphasizing the need for fair employment practices in the aviation sector.

According to ALPA India, such an arrangement, if true, could restrict pilots’ career opportunities and limit their ability to seek better prospects. The association argues that pilots should have the freedom to move between airlines based on merit, experience, and opportunities, without any informal restrictions.

The allegations come at a time when India’s aviation industry is witnessing rapid growth, with increasing demand for skilled pilots. However, constraints in pilot mobility could impact the overall employment landscape, potentially affecting both working conditions and salaries. The association has urged the civil aviation ministry to intervene and ensure that employment practices remain fair and transparent.

Neither Air India nor IndiGo has issued an official statement in response to the allegations. If substantiated, the claims could lead to regulatory scrutiny, as anti-competitive hiring practices may violate fair labor policies. The development also brings attention to broader concerns about talent retention and competition within India’s airline industry.
