Arlanda’s Iconic Jumbo Hostel 747 Set for Demolition.

The iconic Jumbo Hostel at Stockholm Arlanda Airport is approaching the end of its journey, with the aircraft scheduled to be scrapped tomorrow. The Boeing 747-200B, which was converted into a unique airport hostel, has remained closed since March 2025.

The aircraft was transformed into a hostel featuring 33 rooms with a total capacity of 76 beds, offering visitors the unusual experience of staying inside a former jumbo jet. Over the years, it became a distinctive attraction for aviation enthusiasts and travellers visiting Arlanda.

The aircraft originally entered service with Singapore Airlines in 1976, registered as 9V-SQE. In 1984, it was sold to Pan Am, where it operated as N727PA under the name Clipper Belle of the Sky until 1991.

Following its time with Pan Am, the Boeing 747 served several other airlines, including Cathay Pacific and Garuda Indonesia. Its final airline operator was Swedish charter carrier Transjet, based at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, which went bankrupt in 2002.

After decades of service and a second life as a hostel, the historic jumbo jet is now set to be dismantled, bringing an end to its unusual chapter in aviation history.
