The Indian government has informed Parliament that Boeing found no abnormalities in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fuel control switch locking mechanism after advanced testing, following a report by an Air India pilot who noticed a possible issue during a London Heathrow–Bengaluru flight in February 2026.
The fuel control switch has remained under close scrutiny since the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad on 12 June, which claimed 260 lives. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered the inspection as part of continuing airworthiness checks.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the detailed examination, including testing of the switch’s locking mechanism, found no defects. However, a comprehensive inspection of the thrust control module is still underway at Boeing’s facility in Seattle.
The government also stated that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has not delayed its final report into the AI171 crash, explaining that major aircraft accident investigations follow no fixed timeline and that the inquiry is now in its final stages.
