Boeing has identified a software issue affecting some 737 MAX aircraft that could reduce automated flight guidance during a specific landing scenario. The issue can occur after a missed approach when pilots change the aircraft’s pre-programmed flight path, potentially increasing workload during a critical phase of flight.
Boeing has informed operators and reinforced existing procedures for handling the situation while engineers work on a permanent software update. The company said the issue does not represent an immediate safety risk, noting that pilots can continue flying the aircraft safely without the affected automation.
The U.S. FAA is reviewing the issue and has said it will take further action if a safety concern is identified. In India, the development is being closely watched as Air India Express and Akasa Air together operate around 96 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
