Delta Air Lines has announced a major change to its in-flight service, removing snacks and beverages on hundreds of short domestic routes starting May 19, 2026.
According to Simple Flying, the update will impact around 450 daily flights under 350 miles, including busy routes such as Los Angeles to San Francisco, New York to Boston, and Chicago to Detroit. Passengers traveling in Main Cabin and Delta Comfort+ will no longer receive drinks, snacks, or even water service during these flights.
In a statement, Delta said the move aims to “create a more consistent experience across our network,” adding that cabin crew will remain available and attentive to passenger needs despite the removal of onboard service.
However, there is some positive news for travelers on slightly longer routes. As reported by View From The Wing, approximately 600 daily flights between 350 and 499 miles will see an upgrade to full snack and beverage service. First Class passengers will continue to receive full service across all flights without any changes.
The decision also places Delta behind competitors like American Airlines and United Airlines, both of which offer complimentary drinks on shorter routes, making Delta’s service threshold the highest among major U.S. carriers.
