Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-approved Flying Training Organisations (FTOs) have issued a total of 9,609 Student Pilot Licences (SPLs) over the past five years, reflecting steady growth in India’s aviation training ecosystem.
According to information shared in Parliament on Thursday, 2025 recorded the highest number of SPL issuances, with 2,364 student pilot licences granted during the year. This marks a significant rise compared to previous years, indicating increasing interest among youth in pursuing careers in aviation.
The surge in licences is being attributed to expanding opportunities in the aviation sector, rising demand for pilots, and government efforts to strengthen training infrastructure. Several new FTOs and improved training capacity have also contributed to the growth.
The DGCA continues to focus on enhancing safety standards and streamlining training processes to support the next generation of aviation professionals. The rising number of student pilots is expected to help meet future workforce requirements as India’s aviation industry continues to expand.
