In a major safety push, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has tightened regulations for non-scheduled operators, including chartered aircraft and air ambulance services, following two recent crashes in the past month. The move aims to enhance transparency and strengthen oversight across the sector.
Operators will now have to publish key aircraft details on their official websites, including maintenance history and the age of each aircraft. The regulator has also proposed a safety ranking system for these operators, which will be displayed on the DGCA website to help passengers assess safety standards.
The decision comes after a review meeting with all non-scheduled operators in the wake of a fatal chartered plane crash in Jharkhand. DGCA stressed that stricter compliance and better disclosure are essential to prevent recurring incidents.
Non-scheduled operators provide on-demand services rather than fixed commercial schedules, making consistent safety monitoring critical for charter, corporate and medical evacuation flights.
