EAA AirVenture Oshkosh’s Journey From 150 To 700,000.

The story of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh began in September 1953, when the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) hosted its first Fly-In Convention as a small part of the Milwaukee Air Pageant in Wisconsin.

The first gathering welcomed around 150 aviation enthusiasts and featured home-built and modified aircraft, celebrating innovation, creativity, and the passion of aircraft builders and pilots.

More than seven decades later, the event has transformed into the “World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” becoming one of the largest aviation gatherings in the world.

Today, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh attracts more than 10,000 aircraft and over 700,000 visitors from more than 90 countries. The event brings together pilots, aviation professionals, enthusiasts, and families for aircraft displays, educational programs, community connections, and spectacular air shows.

From a small gathering of aviation lovers to a global celebration of flight, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh continues to represent the spirit of innovation and the passion that drives aviation forward.
