Hundreds of Haj pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia staged a protest at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport after reporting missing valuables and damaged luggage upon arrival from Jeddah. The incident occurred on June 2 when passengers from flight XY 9062 collected their baggage and discovered broken locks, damaged suitcase chains, and missing personal belongings.
The flight was carrying 423 pilgrims returning from the annual Haj pilgrimage. Shortly after baggage collection, several passengers raised concerns about missing items and damaged luggage, leading to a protest inside the airport terminal. Videos shared on social media showed frustrated passengers confronting airline representatives and demanding answers regarding their missing belongings.
One female pilgrim claimed that several personal items, including silver rings, perfume bottles, gold nose pins, hijabs, and children’s toys, were missing from her luggage. Other passengers also alleged that valuables had disappeared despite their bags arriving in Lucknow. Many expressed dissatisfaction with the response they initially received regarding their complaints.
Airline officials stated that some baggage had been held back in Jeddah due to excess baggage restrictions and would be transported on later flights. However, affected passengers maintained that their concerns were related to missing items from luggage that had already arrived, rather than bags delayed in transit. Airport authorities later stepped in to facilitate discussions between passengers and airline representatives, helping bring the situation under control.
The incident comes as thousands of Indian pilgrims continue returning home following the completion of Haj 2026 in Saudi Arabia, with authorities expected to review the complaints raised by the affected travelers.
