Hindon Airport Gears Up for Surge with New Routes.

Hindon Civil Airport, situated near Sikandarpur at the Hindon airbase, is bracing for a surge in passenger traffic as it readies itself to launch new flights to Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Goa on March 1 and 2. This marks a significant expansion for the airport, which currently operates flights to regional destinations such as Adampur, Nanded, Kishangarh, Ludhiana, and Bathinda. At present, the airport handles a modest traffic of around 120 passengers daily. However, with the addition of these new routes, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) expect passenger footfall to skyrocket, with a potential five- to six-fold increase in daily traffic.

The growth of Hindon Civil Airport comes at a time when demand for air travel has been rising, particularly for regional routes that connect smaller cities to major hubs. As more people seek alternatives to the often-congested airports in Delhi, the increased frequency of flights from Hindon to key destinations like Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Goa offers significant relief. The new routes are expected to cater to both business and leisure travelers, providing an easier option for passengers who previously had to travel long distances to access flights from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Given the scale of the expected traffic surge, AAI officials are already working to ensure the airport is prepared for the increase in passengers. Plans are underway to enhance various facilities and services at Hindon, including expanding check-in counters, improving baggage handling systems, and ramping up security measures to ensure smooth operations. With these upgrades, the airport is positioning itself as an efficient and convenient hub for regional travelers.

The anticipated growth at Hindon Civil Airport is part of a broader effort to ease congestion at Delhi’s primary airport while promoting regional connectivity. By offering more options for passengers, the airport is likely to attract both regular flyers and those who prefer a less crowded travel experience. Additionally, this expansion aligns with the government’s ongoing push to develop smaller airports across India and promote regional air travel under the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme.

As these new routes take flight, Hindon Civil Airport is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity and reducing the pressure on larger airports. The increase in traffic will not only boost the local economy but also provide a much-needed boost to the region’s aviation industry, fostering both domestic tourism and business opportunities.
