IAI Offers Barak-8 ER to Indian Navy.

Israel Aerospace Industries has offered the extended-range Barak-8 ER air defence system to the Indian Navy to enhance its long-range maritime protection capability. The proposal comes as India continues to emphasise indigenous defence production while seeking advanced solutions for layered fleet air defence.

The Barak-8 ER features a significantly higher interception range, allowing naval platforms to engage hostile aircraft, anti-ship missiles and other aerial threats at greater stand-off distances. The system is designed to integrate with existing naval air defence architecture, offering a seamless upgrade path.

The offer aligns with the ongoing strategic cooperation between India and Israel in missile development, where several Barak-8 variants have already been jointly produced and deployed. The extended-range version would further strengthen area air defence for frontline warships.

The move is being viewed as a capability enhancement option that complements India’s indigenous push, providing advanced technology while supporting local manufacturing through joint production frameworks.
