IndiGo is set to recruit more than 1,000 pilots across ranks following last year’s large-scale flight disruptions that led to over 5,000 cancellations in a week. The move aims to stabilise operations, meet regulatory requirements, and support the airline’s expanding network.

Hiring Across All Ranks:
The recruitment will include trainee first officers, senior first officers, and commanders to strengthen cockpit availability.

Open to Non-A320 Rated Pilots:
Applicants without experience on the Airbus A320 — the airline’s primary aircraft — are also eligible, widening the talent pool.

Response to Operational Crisis:
The expansion comes after severe disruptions in December that exposed pilot shortages and rostering challenges.

DGCA Review Findings:
An assessment by Directorate General of Civil Aviation noted that hiring and training capacity had not kept pace with revised norms.

New Pilot Duty Regulations:
Updated rules limit late-night landings and increase mandatory weekly rest, reducing pilot fatigue and improving safety.

Impact on Crew Utilisation:
Shortage earlier led to repeated reassignments, longer duty periods, and higher use of deadheading for operational coverage.

Network Stability & Future Growth:
The fresh intake is expected to improve on-time performance and support IndiGo’s domestic and international expansion plans.
