Istanbul Airport has once again secured its position as the busiest air hub in Europe, with an impressive average of 1,352 daily flights between December 2 and December 8, 2024. This achievement was confirmed by Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu in a statement on Sunday. The mega airport, located in Türkiye’s largest city, continues to outperform numerous major airports across European capitals, reaffirming its critical role in global aviation.

The recognition comes as Istanbul Airport recently celebrated its six-year anniversary since beginning operations, marking a significant milestone in its development. Over the years, the airport has rapidly grown to become a key transit point for international flights, connecting Europe to destinations around the world.

In his statement, Uraloğlu referenced the European Aviation Outlook Report by Eurocontrol, which analyzed air traffic performance from December 2 to December 8. Eurocontrol, a pan-European civil-military organization, monitors and evaluates a range of metrics, including flight delays, airline performance, air traffic, and jet fuel prices. The report highlighted the ongoing dominance of Istanbul Airport in handling European air traffic, showcasing the airport’s efficiency and ability to handle high volumes of flights while maintaining strong operational performance.

Istanbul Airport’s continued success reflects the growing demand for air travel to and from Türkiye and its strategic location as a bridge between Europe, Asia, and beyond. The airport has become a crucial hub for connecting global destinations and supporting tourism, business, and trade. Its operational capacity and modern infrastructure position it as a vital player in European and global aviation networks, capable of accommodating the increasing flow of passengers and cargo.
