ITA Airways has officially received approval to begin its integration into Star Alliance, marking a significant step in the airline’s strategic expansion. The decision, confirmed by the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board (CEB), is expected to lead to ITA Airways’ full membership in early 2026.
This development follows ITA Airways’ induction into the Lufthansa Group earlier this year, a move that strengthened the airline’s international reach and positioned it for closer collaboration with global carriers. By joining Star Alliance, ITA Airways will gain access to an extensive network of partner airlines, offering passengers enhanced connectivity, seamless travel experiences, and expanded loyalty benefits.
As Italy’s national carrier, ITA Airways has been undergoing a transformation since replacing Alitalia in 2021. The airline has focused on modernizing its fleet, improving service quality, and strengthening its European and long-haul operations. Its entry into Star Alliance is expected to further enhance its competitiveness, particularly in key transatlantic and European markets.
Once fully integrated, ITA Airways will become the 27th member of Star Alliance, joining leading global airlines such as Lufthansa, United Airlines, and Singapore Airlines. The transition will bring benefits for both ITA Airways and Star Alliance members, with improved codeshare agreements, streamlined connections, and expanded flight options for travelers worldwide.
