A former Boeing 707 once owned by John Travolta has officially arrived in Australia after completing a lengthy sea journey from Georgia in the United States to Port Kembla in New South Wales.
The historic aircraft, which previously flew for Qantas before becoming part of Travolta’s private collection, was donated in 2017 to the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society near Shellharbour. The jet has remained in storage for several years while plans were finalized for its transport to Australia.
Because the Boeing 707 was no longer airworthy, the aircraft could not make the trip by air. Instead, specialists carefully dismantled the jet before shipping its fuselage, wings, and tail sections by sea over a journey lasting nearly two months. Engines and smaller aircraft components had already arrived separately ahead of the main shipment.
The aircraft will now be transferred to the HARS Aviation Museum, where volunteers will begin the long process of reassembling and restoring the classic jet. Once completed, the Boeing 707 is expected to become a major public attraction and an important part of Australia’s aviation heritage.
