Lucky Coin Toss Grounds Flight For Hours.

A well-intentioned act by an 80-year-old passenger led to a major flight delay at Shanghai Pudong International Airport in 2017. The woman reportedly tossed several coins toward an aircraft before boarding, believing the gesture would bring good luck and ensure a safe journey.

However, one of the coins reportedly landed near the aircraft’s engine, immediately triggering safety concerns. Airport staff and engineers were alerted, and the aircraft was grounded while a thorough inspection was carried out to ensure no foreign objects had entered the engine or posed a risk to flight safety.

The precautionary checks delayed the flight by nearly five hours as maintenance teams carefully examined the aircraft. Although the passenger had no malicious intent, aviation authorities treated the incident seriously due to the potential dangers that even small objects can pose to aircraft engines.

The unusual event gained international attention and served as a reminder of the strict safety procedures followed in aviation. Experts note that even tiny objects can cause significant damage if ingested by an aircraft engine, highlighting why airport safety regulations must be followed at all times.
