Lufthansa Cabin Crew Member Dies After Alleged Electric Shock at Bengaluru Hotel Pool.

A Lufthansa cabin crew member has died following an alleged electrocution incident at the swimming pool of a five-star hotel in Bengaluru, India. Another flight attendant was reportedly injured in the incident, which occurred while the airline crew was staying at the hotel during a scheduled layover.

The deceased has been identified as Alexander T., a 57-year-old German national employed by Lufthansa. According to German newspaper BILD, the crew had arrived in Bengaluru from Germany and were resting at Conrad Bengaluru, a luxury hotel operated under the Hilton group.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 5:10 p.m. on Friday, October 30, when several crew members were swimming in the hotel’s rooftop pool. Initial reports suggest that the pool water may have become electrified after its underwater lighting was switched on, exposing swimmers to an electrical current. Alexander suffered a fatal electric shock, while another crew member was reportedly injured while attempting to leave the pool.

Reports also indicate that two other people were injured while attempting to assist the victims. However, accounts differ regarding the number of fatalities and injuries, and the full circumstances have yet to be officially established.

Lufthansa subsequently confirmed Alexander’s death and expressed condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. The remaining crew members were reportedly offered psychological support following the traumatic incident.

Meanwhile, Alexander’s wife has reportedly filed a police complaint alleging negligence in the hotel’s swimming pool maintenance. Bengaluru police have launched an investigation to determine how the pool may have become electrified and whether safety failures contributed to the tragedy.

Hotel management expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that it was cooperating with authorities. The swimming pool was reportedly closed for maintenance from October 31 through November 30.

The incident has raised serious concerns about electrical safety and maintenance standards at hotel swimming facilities, as investigators work to establish the exact cause of the fatal accident.
