A viral video circulating on Sunday night, March 1, 2026, shows massive crowds of passengers gathering inside the terminals of Dubai International Airport. The clip, captioned “Dubai airport right now,” highlights growing frustration and uncertainty among travelers after flight operations were suddenly suspended, leaving thousands waiting for updates.
The disruption began after heightened regional tensions led authorities to temporarily halt operations at both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport for nearly 48 hours. Officials took the step as a precaution following missile and drone activity in the region, which raised safety concerns for civil aviation and forced several flights to cancel or divert.
Limited aviation activity has gradually resumed since the evening of March 2. However, the flights currently operating are mainly repatriation, cargo, and aircraft repositioning services, while most regular commercial passenger flights remain suspended or significantly delayed as authorities continue to review airspace safety conditions.
Major UAE carriers including Emirates and flydubai have begun operating a small number of departures. Despite this, the majority of scheduled services are still affected, with airlines carefully adjusting flight schedules while waiting for full operational clearance.
During the escalation, a terminal concourse at Dubai International Airport sustained minor structural damage and four airport workers were injured. Emergency response teams quickly secured the affected area, and authorities confirmed that passenger terminals had been cleared earlier as a precaution, helping minimize risk to travelers.
Regional airspace restrictions also played a major role in the disruption. The United Arab Emirates temporarily closed or limited its airspace after missile and drone threats were detected and intercepted across the Gulf region, forcing airlines worldwide to cancel flights or reroute aircraft until limited operations could safely resume.
