Padma Shri Shubha V Iyengar Strengthens India’s Aviation Safety.

Dr Shubha V Iyengar, a senior scientist from CSIR–National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), has been awarded the Padma Shri in 2026 for her contribution to aviation safety technology. She led the development of Drishti, India’s first indigenous runway visibility-measuring system.

Drishti provides accurate runway visibility data to pilots and air traffic controllers, especially during fog and low visibility.

• Reducing Foreign Dependence
The indigenous system has helped India cut costs and reduce reliance on expensive imported aviation instruments.
