Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held an important meeting with a delegation from Lockheed Martin on Monday to discuss the possibilities of manufacturing aircraft in India. The discussions were led by Michael Williamson, the President of Lockheed Martin International, with a focus on advancing the “Make in India” initiative, particularly in the aerospace and defense sectors.
During the meeting, Goyal explored potential opportunities for collaboration with the U.S.-based defense giant to boost domestic aircraft manufacturing capabilities in India. This move aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to promote self-reliance in key sectors such as defense and aerospace, reducing dependence on imports and creating more job opportunities within the country.
Goyal emphasized the importance of strengthening India’s aerospace and defense sectors, which play a crucial role in national security and economic growth. The collaboration with Lockheed Martin could bring advanced technology, expertise, and significant investments to India, helping the country establish itself as a global player in the manufacturing of aircraft and defense equipment.
Both the Indian government and Lockheed Martin see immense potential in leveraging India’s growing industrial base and skilled workforce. Through this partnership, India aims to not only meet its own defense and aerospace needs but also become a hub for exporting high-quality, domestically manufactured aircraft and defense systems to other nations.
This dialogue marks a significant step forward in India’s push to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and achieve the goal of becoming a global leader in aerospace and defense production, in line with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision.
