Qantas has announced that it will launch the world’s first non-stop flights between Sydney and London from October 2027, marking a historic milestone for global aviation. The service will be the first time the iconic Kangaroo Route is operated non-stop from Australia’s east coast.
The airline also confirmed plans for non-stop flights between Sydney and New York City, further expanding its ultra long-haul network. Both routes are expected to have flight times of up to 22 hours, making them among the longest commercial flights in the world.
To operate these services, Qantas has ordered 12 Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft specifically designed for ultra long-range operations. The new jets will feature advanced fuel efficiency, improved passenger comfort, and specialized cabin layouts tailored for extended journeys.
The launch is part of Qantas’ long-awaited Project Sunrise initiative, aimed at connecting Australia directly with major global cities without stopovers. The airline believes the new routes will significantly reduce travel times while offering passengers a seamless long-haul travel experience.
