A SpiceJet flight from New Delhi to Leh made an emergency return to Indira Gandhi International Airport shortly after takeoff following a technical issue in one of its engines. All passengers and crew remained safe.
The Boeing 737-700, carrying around 150 people, took off at about 6:20 am but climbed to nearly 9,000 feet before the crew detected a malfunction in engine number two and decided to turn back as a precaution.
Airport authorities declared a full emergency, deploying fire and rescue teams to ensure safety during landing. The aircraft touched down safely at around 6:55 am with no injuries reported.
Some passengers shared videos on social media alleging flames from the engine, though officials confirmed there was no cockpit fire warning. The aircraft has been grounded for detailed inspection.
Travellers were later assisted with updates and alternative arrangements as the airline worked to manage the situation.
