SpiceJet is set to re-engage with US aerospace giant Boeing to resume deliveries of the Boeing 737 Max planes from its 2017 order, according to Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh. The announcement was made during the airline’s Annual General Meeting on Monday, signaling renewed efforts to bolster its fleet amid improving financial conditions.

The airline’s original agreement with Boeing, signed in January 2017, included a massive order for 205 aircraft, comprising 100 B737 Max planes. However, after receiving only 13 of the aircraft, deliveries were paused due to SpiceJet’s financial difficulties in recent years.

During the AGM, Singh emphasized the significance of the deal in the airline’s growth strategy. “We placed an order for 200 aircraft with Boeing in 2017 and received 13 aircraft…we will talk to Boeing to restart deliveries,” he said. The move is part of SpiceJet’s broader plan to recover its market position and meet growing passenger demand.

The B737 Max aircraft are known for their fuel efficiency and advanced technology, making them a critical component of SpiceJet’s fleet modernization strategy. With the airline recently securing ₹3,000 crore in funding, it is now better positioned to explore opportunities to expand and upgrade its operations.

Resuming deliveries of the B737 Max could significantly enhance SpiceJet’s capacity and competitiveness in the domestic and international markets. The renewed talks with Boeing also underline the airline’s commitment to rebuilding its fleet and addressing the challenges that have hindered its growth.

This development comes at a time when SpiceJet is focusing on stabilizing its operations and addressing key financial concerns. Discussions with Boeing are expected to chart a course for the resumption of deliveries, which could be pivotal for the airline’s long-term expansion plans.
