New regional carrier Sum Air has successfully obtained its Air Carrier License (ACL), marking a significant milestone ahead of its planned ATR 72-600 operations in South Korea. The airline’s acquisition of the ACL enables it to begin offering domestic and regional flights within the country, connecting key cities and airports.

Sum Air plans to operate the ATR 72-600, a turboprop aircraft well-suited for regional routes, offering increased efficiency and lower operational costs compared to larger jets. The ATR 72-600 will be the backbone of Sum Air’s fleet, allowing it to cater to the growing demand for regional air travel in South Korea.

The airline’s entry into the South Korean aviation market is seen as a strategic move to capitalize on the country’s expanding tourism and business sectors. As one of the newest entrants in the competitive aviation landscape, Sum Air will focus on providing cost-effective services while ensuring passenger comfort and safety.

South Korea’s aviation sector has seen steady growth in recent years, with demand for regional flights increasing, especially on routes connecting smaller cities and remote areas. Sum Air aims to address this need by providing an affordable and reliable air travel option, further enhancing South Korea’s connectivity.

With the Air Carrier License now in hand, Sum Air is preparing for the launch of its inaugural flights, with the ATR 72-600 ready to take to the skies. The airline’s operational launch will also introduce new competition to the regional travel market, benefiting passengers with more choices and improved connectivity across the region.
