Supreme Court Seeks Govt Reply on Airfares.

The Supreme Court of India has granted the Centre four weeks to respond to a petition raising serious concerns over arbitrary airfare hikes and frequent flight cancellations in India’s civil aviation sector.

During the hearing, the court remarked that the government is currently occupied with “bigger problems,” indirectly pointing towards global geopolitical tensions such as the Iran–Israel conflict, which may have wider implications.

The petition has urged the need for stronger accountability mechanisms and regulatory oversight to prevent airlines from imposing sudden fare surges and to ensure better handling of cancellations, which often inconvenience passengers.

The Centre is now expected to file a detailed response within the stipulated time. The matter is likely to be taken up again after four weeks, with a focus on balancing passenger rights and operational challenges in the aviation industry.
