Teesside Airport Veteran Retires After Four Decades.

A long-serving member of the air traffic control team at Teesside International Airport has retired after dedicating more than 40 years to the aviation industry. Karen Maidment leaves behind a legacy of commitment and service at the airport.

Karen began her journey in 1981 and secured a permanent role in 1985. By 1990, she had moved into the control tower, becoming an integral part of daily air traffic operations and contributing significantly to the airport’s safety and efficiency over the decades.

Throughout her career, she rose through the ranks to become Head of Air Traffic Services, a testament to her expertise and leadership. Despite living with Type 1 diabetes, which historically limited her ability to qualify as a full air traffic controller under older health regulations, she continued to excel in her field.

Her retirement marks the end of an era for Teesside Airport, with colleagues and industry professionals recognizing her dedication and impact. Karen’s career stands as an example of perseverance and passion within the aviation sector.
