India’s next-generation fighter program, HAL Tejas Mk2, has entered a crucial stage as it moves closer to taxi trials. This phase marks an important milestone ahead of the aircraft’s first flight, reflecting steady progress in India’s indigenous defense aviation efforts.
Taxi trials involve running the aircraft on the runway at varying speeds to evaluate critical systems such as landing gear performance, braking efficiency, and overall ground stability. These tests are essential to ensure the aircraft’s readiness and safety before it takes to the skies.
Meanwhile, the process for first flight clearance is also advancing. This includes a series of technical evaluations, system validations, and regulatory approvals. If everything proceeds as planned, the Tejas Mk2 could soon be ready for its maiden flight.
Developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in collaboration with the Aeronautical Development Agency, the Tejas Mk2 is designed to meet the future operational needs of the Indian Air Force. The aircraft is expected to feature advanced avionics, enhanced payload capacity, and a more powerful engine, making it a capable multirole combat platform.
