‘Vader 01’ 747-8 Begins Test Flights.

A Boeing 747-8 destined for future Air Force One duties has begun test flights across the US under the callsign “Vader 01.” The aircraft is part of efforts to modernize the aging presidential fleet currently based on the VC-25A.

The new aircraft is a stopgap solution while delays continue to impact the next-generation VC-25B program. The temporary jet, reportedly sourced from Qatar, is undergoing extensive flight testing ahead of its expected entry into service.

Aviation enthusiasts have been closely tracking the aircraft as it performs multiple test sorties, signaling progress toward deployment. The flights are focused on validating systems, performance, and mission readiness for VIP transport operations.

With the current fleet aging, the introduction of this interim aircraft could ensure continuity in presidential air mobility. The jet is anticipated to enter service as early as this summer, marking a key step in the transition toward a modernized Air Force One fleet.
