Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others were killed on 28 January 2026 when a chartered Learjet 45 business jet crashed near Baramati Airport in Pune district during a landing attempt. The tragic accident occurred early Wednesday morning, leaving no survivors among those on board.

  • Fatal Accident During Landing Attempt
The Learjet 45 aircraft, operating as a charter flight and registered as VT-SSK, was arriving from Mumbai when it lost control during a second landing attempt at Baramati, crashed near the runway, and burst into flames.
  • All Onboard Killed

  • Eyewitness Accounts
Witnesses reported the jet appeared unstable as it approached the runway, with visible smoke, followed by a series of explosions after impact, making rescue efforts difficult.
  • Investigation Underway
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) have begun probing the cause of the crash. Initial statements suggest poor visibility and difficulty spotting the runway may have contributed.
