British Airways has introduced a new initiative to reward its pilots for reducing fuel consumption, as rising operational costs continue to challenge the aviation industry. The move comes amid global tensions, including the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, which has significantly impacted jet fuel prices and airline expenses.

Under the plan, pilots will be eligible for a financial bonus if they successfully lower their aircraft’s carbon emissions. According to reports, the airline has set a target of cutting an additional 60,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions beyond 2025 levels. Achieving this goal could earn pilots a bonus worth up to 1% of their base salary.

The airline confirmed that it is collaborating with the British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) to implement this program. The initiative aims not only to manage rising fuel costs but also to support environmental sustainability goals by encouraging more efficient flying practices.

This step highlights how airlines are exploring innovative strategies to balance cost pressures while reducing their environmental footprint. By incentivizing pilots, British Airways hopes to improve fuel efficiency and strengthen its commitment to greener aviation
