China has introduced stricter legal measures to address “air rage” and other threats to civil aviation safety, as authorities move to strengthen enforcement and passenger discipline.

The Supreme People’s Court of China and Supreme People’s Procuratorate issued a new judicial interpretation outlining severe penalties for disruptive behavior, including spreading false terror threats.

The document, consisting of seven articles, clarifies how existing criminal laws should be applied in cases involving aviation safety risks. It also provides guidance for handling offenses that could endanger passengers, crew, and aircraft operations.

Set to take effect from Thursday, the move reflects China’s focus on maintaining strict discipline and ensuring safer air travel amid rising incidents of onboard disruptions.
